# Edit prompts and basic information

The system prompt sets lasting requirements for an agent. Give temporary task-specific materials and formatting requirements in the conversation. Edit agent configuration when a requirement should apply to future use.

## Change the name and description

Open **My agents**, select the target card, and use the edit control beside the name or description. Use a name that distinguishes its business purpose and a description that explains what work to give it. Save, then reopen details and verify the displayed values.

## Edit the system prompt

1. Find the system-prompt section in agent details and select its edit control.
2. Organize the prompt by responsibilities, inputs, steps, output, and boundaries. The current form allows up to 10,000 characters.
3. Save and wait for the operation to finish.
4. Leave and reopen details to verify the persisted content.
5. Start a new conversation from the agent and test a representative task.

## Example prompt

> You are a product terminology assistant. Read the materials specified by the user, extract product terms, and merge duplicates. Output three columns: term, explanation, and source evidence. Every explanation must be supported by the material; list items needing confirmation when information is insufficient. When asked to query a knowledge base, use the bound material and cite its sources.

Concrete responsibilities are easier to validate than broad demands such as “be professional and comprehensive.” For messaging or external-data changes, define the business-approved targets and execution conditions.

## Troubleshoot changes that do not take effect

Check that saving finished without an error and that reopened details show the new value. Do not rely on conversation text as proof of saving. If the new value is present, check bound skills for conflicting instructions and test in a new conversation to remove the influence of earlier context.
